She has a background as a culture journalist and has, among other things, been editor of the magazine Arkitektur. Most recently, she comes from a position as art director in Halmstad municipality. Previously, she has also been art project manager at Stockholm Art and head of the art unit at the State Art Council.
Lena From says she is happy, honored, and proud of the assignment.
"In a time like ours, when artistic freedom is shrinking and public resources for art and architecture are being cut back in many places, the Academy of Fine Arts has a more important role to play than perhaps ever before. To give artists and architects opportunities to work, of course. But also, and above all, for the art's undisputed democratic value", she says in a press release.
Lena From is succeeding Elisabeth Alsheimer Evenstedt, who has been permanent secretary since June 2022, and she will take office on June 1 this year.
