A comprehensive effort to cut costs and increase revenues was launched last autumn when the alarm sounded. Since then, the club has managed to reduce costs by approximately 20 million kronor and reviewed the organization.
But it's not enough.
An application has been submitted to Leksand Municipality, where the SHL club expresses its wish to "extend the existing guarantee commitment and extend the arena rental agreement", the club writes in a press release.
"Support through a municipal guarantee enables the restructuring of loans and a five-year interest-free period, which will be central parts of the work towards a sustainable economy."
According to the club's submission to the municipality, it appears that Leksand – with its current economy – cannot keep up with the repayment plan until 2035, when the club's loan on the facility, valued at 170 million kronor, is to be repaid.
"For us, it's about creating long-term and stable conditions for the entire association. Without an extended amortization period, we have a very hard time managing our current debt. Therefore, this application is necessary. At the same time, we continue to work on reducing costs, increasing revenues, and building the organization for a sustainable future."
"Leksands IF has an important role to play, not only within Swedish ice hockey, but also as a strong community actor in Leksand and Dalarna. That role is one we want to continue to have in the future", says Andreas Gärdsback, Chairman of Leksands IF AB, in the press release.
