In December, the age limit was lowered from eight to seven years. Now it is being lowered again, and the reduction applies to the current year.
This has been requested by many guardians, associations and children's rights organizations, says Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) at a press conference.
The leisure card is a government subsidy for children who participate in various leisure activities at approved associations. The general amount for the leisure card is 550 SEK per child per year. The special leisure card for children in economically disadvantaged families is 2,500 SEK.
We see how more and more people are downloading their leisure card, more and more people are using it. Not least in households with tighter finances, says Forssmed.
A total of 420,000 cards have been granted so far in 2026, and of these, 344,000 have been used.
For children in economically disadvantaged families, defined as receiving housing benefit, 35,600 cards have been downloaded this year, according to statistics from the authorities that administer the card. That category is now also being expanded to include families receiving housing benefit.
The government's leisure card was launched in September last year. This year, 800 million kronor has been earmarked for the card.
