He fell asleep peacefully at home surrounded by his closest family - his wife Rita, children Eva and Thomas, and grandchildren.

Leif Silbersky was born in Malmö in 1938 and has spent a large part of his professional life as a lawyer. In 1969, he started his own law firm. As a lawyer, he has prosecuted cases and defended perpetrators in all sorts of cases.

Some of the most notable cases he was involved in include the Trustor scandal, the Hagamannen case, the disco fire in Gothenburg, the murder of 10-year-old Engla, and the espionage trial against Bertil Ströberg.

Champion of the individual

"Through his long and successful career, he became a champion of individual rights and a voice for those who often stood alone against the system," writes the family.

In addition to his career as a prominent lawyer, Silbersky has written a long series of books, including the series about lawyer Rosenbaum and the detective novels he wrote together with his friend Olov Svedelid.

In 2019, documentary filmmaker Tom Alandh made a three-part series about Leif Silbersky.

Normally, you shouldn't become friends with those you portray, but since we worked together for so long, we got to know each other quite well, says Tom Alandh.

Strong emotional person

The two later became friends and last spoke just a week ago. Tom Alandh promised to call during the holidays.

Do that and we'll see if I answer, he said. It was so typical of Leif to express himself like that. He was a strong emotional person, but not at all sentimental.

Silbersky had strong integrity, but working with him was fun and enjoyable, says Tom Alandh.

I've almost never met a more agile, faster, and more intense intellect. And he was actually very funny and sarcastic.

The family announces that the funeral will take place in the closest circle of mourners.

Leif Silbersky was 86 years old.
