"We have a strong coaching team, with many different experiences that will benefit us. It's great to add Jörgen Jönsson, a Tre Kronor legend," says national team manager Anders Lundberg in a press release.
Jönsson will serve as an assistant national coach, along with Stefan Klockare and Anthon Hansson. A fourth assistant national coach will be added.
In January, Jönsson was fired by Färjestad, but his contract is still valid until 2029. The association will therefore "hire" the 53-year-old from the club.
During his hockey career, Jönsson won nine World Championship medals and, as a coach, three Swedish Championship gold medals.
The World Cup in Switzerland will be held May 15–31.
