The proposal is intended to cover the economic hole that may arise when children are on school breaks, according to the party. The school break allowance is to be paid out to all children aged 6 and 16.

The Left Party suggested last week that families with children should receive double child benefits in June and July as an emergency measure. But that's not enough, says party leader Nooshi Dadgostar in her May 1st speech.

The school break allowance is to be a permanent investment and distributed over the year's different school breaks depending on their duration. For example, 400 kronor are to be paid during the Easter break and during the sports break. During the summer break, 2,500 kronor are to be paid out per child.

The Left Party points out that household margins, and particularly single parents, have been squeezed in recent years and refers to high food prices and rents.

So a visit to Astrid Lindgren's World can be an opportunity even for a family with limited resources, says Dadgostar.

The proposal is expected to cost 6.8 billion kronor for 2026. It is to be financed through a bank tax and with fees for food giants and electricity companies.
