The left-wing politician from Dalarna was elected to the Riksdag (the Swedish parliament), but applied for two weeks’ leave when the Riksdag opened last week. This followed media reports that the police had launched an investigation into suspected election fraud.
Ali, who has not been charged with any crime, told Ekot that he denies any involvement in possible election fraud and has not been contacted by the police in the ongoing investigation.
As of Friday afternoon, no one had been charged in the investigation, according to the radio.
