The police had to break a window to enter the darkened house one evening in December 2023.
They arrived at the scene with a lump in their stomach, prepared for the possibility that the child might be dead. But the child was found alive in a stuffy room that reeked of urine. The child's only companion – a mobile with a baby monitor, which captures sounds. The child guzzled water, ate a clementine, and wanted to be close to the police officers.
After the incident, the mother has been charged with endangering the life of another, gross assault, and unlawful deprivation of liberty, and the trial begins on Friday in Uppsala District Court.
I have never had a similar case before, says prosecutor Karin Koci to Aftonbladet.
The mother, with a history of alcohol abuse, had gone to Stockholm to visit a bar and go to a nightclub with a friend. She was found severely intoxicated at a gas station in Solna and said that her child was alone at home.
The child has since been placed in a foster home, writes Aftonbladet.
