With eleven laps to go, Antonelli had problems with his Mercedes. He was three seconds behind leader Leclerc and chasing the win. Instead, he was ordered into the pits, which ruined his day. He was also handed a five-second time penalty, which left him without any World Championship points in 16th place.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen also had problems at the end of the race. He was forced to retire while in third place with a few laps remaining.

This meant that the race ended behind the safety car. Leclerc won ahead of George Russell in the Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari in third place.

Antonelli still tops the World Championship standings, 25 points ahead of second-place Russell.
