For Italian Ferrari, there is no race that is more important to win than the one on the Monza track a few miles north of Milan.

So it was celebrated extensively when it became clear that Charles Leclerc had won Sunday's race, just like he did five years ago.

The feelings during the last laps were just like in 2019, he says happily in the victory interview on Viaplay's broadcast.

At the same time as Leclerc was being interviewed, the celebration was underway among the thousands of Ferrari fans who had made their way onto the track after the race was over.

And Leclerc, the Monegasque, has had the ability this season to be at his best when he wants to win the most.

Monaco and Monza are the two races I want to win every year. It's clear that I want to win as many races as possible and become World Champion one day soon. But these are the two most important races for the season and I managed to win both this year. It's so special, says the 26-year-old who is third overall in the World Championship.

Right behind him were two McLaren cars. Oscar Piastri, Australia, finished second and Briton Lando Norris, who started in pole position, third.

Norris is second overall and narrowed the gap slightly on leading Max Verstappen, the Dutchman who finished sixth on Monza.

Verstappen has 303 points and Norris 241 with a third of the season remaining. The next race, the 17th of a total of 24, will be decided in Azerbaijan's capital Baku in two weeks.
