Lebanon is to file a formal protest with the UN Security Council against Israeli wall construction in the southern part of the country. The UN peacekeeping mission has previously accused Israel of illegal construction along the demarcation line.

The announcement of the Lebanese UN protest came from the office of President Joseph Aoun. The accusation concerns "the construction of a concrete wall on Lebanon's southern border that crosses the Blue Line."

The so-called Blue Line is the demarcation line that in practice separates Lebanon and Israel – and where security is controlled by the UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL.

UNIFIL (the UN Interim Force in Lebanon) said on Friday that “a T-shaped concrete wall has been built by the Israeli military southwest of Yaron,” and that the wall crosses the Blue Line.

Israel denies UN accusations that the wall construction encroaches on drawn border lines.

“The wall is part of a larger (Israeli) plan whose construction began in 2022,” the Israeli military responded, saying that the wall does not cross the Blue Line.
