The explosion in Beirut on August 4, 2020, claimed the lives of over 200 people. Now the prosecutor at Lebanon's Court of Cassation is demanding that charges be brought against former President Michel Aoun.
He is accused of having known for many years about the storage of the highly explosive substance ammonium nitrate in the port - without taking action or informing the country's defense council about the situation.
Judge Tarek Bitar will make a formal decision on whether to press charges.
