The meeting comes a day after the United States, which has been leading peace talks between Israel and Lebanon, announced that the Lebanese army would take control of so-called pilot zones in southern Lebanon. These are mainly located just outside the areas that Israel occupied after Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into the Middle East war in March.
Joseph Aoun, who has criticized Hezbollah's decision to drag Lebanon into the war, hopes Trump will pressure Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory.
Aoun is the first Lebanese president to be invited to the White House since 2009.
