The Israeli raid took place in southern Lebanon, against the town of al-Tiri, on Wednesday. Al-Akhbar confirmed late in the evening that its reporter had been killed in the attack.
Lebanon's civil defense recovered her remains after hours of work in the ruins of a house that was an apparent target of the attack.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) issued an international appeal to pressure the Israeli military to allow the search for her to take place.
Reports said the Israeli military shelled the area to hinder the search for Khalil.
Photojournalist Zeinab Faraj was also at the scene of the raid, but survived.
