At least 16 people were killed when a tanker truck exploded in Haiti on Saturday. Another 40 people were injured when the tanker, which was leaking fuel, exploded in the southwestern part of the island nation.
Many people had gathered around the tanker to collect the leaking fuel, according to eyewitnesses on the scene. The injured were taken to hospitals in the port city of Miragoane, about ten miles west of the capital Port-au-Prince.
Haiti's Prime Minister for the transitional government, Garry Conille, called an emergency meeting after the accident.
