The contract, signed in Moscow in December last year, is worth 495 million euros, equivalent to around 5.3 billion kronor, and consists of 500 Verba model launchers and 2,500 air defense missiles, the FT reports.
Verba is one of Russia's most modern air defense systems, capable of engaging cruise missiles, low-flying aircraft and drones, and allows smaller, mobile groups of soldiers to quickly establish defensive positions.
The revelation comes as the US is mobilizing militarily in the region to pressure Iran to agree to a nuclear energy deal.
