After Aftonbladet's autumn reviews pointed to several shortcomings in the 2004 investigation of the Knutby murder, Johan Eriksson, together with his client, the so-called nanny, decided to apply for a review in the Supreme Court.
On Friday, a first step was taken when the lawyer submitted a letter to the Attorney General (RÅ) to reopen the case.
Then I will hold a press conference and tell you everything, he told TT.
The investigation questions whether the nanny really fired the fatal shots.
Among other things, the review points out that more shots may have been fired at the pastor's wife than the nanny stated she fired - and that there could therefore be an alternative perpetrator.
According to Aftonbladet's review, information about the angles of the shots is also incorrect, and it is believed that a pool of blood under the bed could indicate that the pastor's wife was already dead.
"You can't kill someone who is already dead. Therefore, she should not be convicted of murder. However, it was correct that she was convicted of attempted murder. She admitted to that and should be convicted of that," Eriksson said in November.
A follow-up investigation by Aftonbladet on Wednesday points to a possible perpetrator with connections to the sect.
The suspect was arrested by one of the police officers who were first on the scene in Knutby after the murder. Investigations showed that the person had 41 so-called detonator particles on him - a sign that a weapon may have been fired.
On January 10, 2004, the wife of pastor Helge Fossmo was found murdered in the couple's home in the small community of Knutby outside Uppsala. In the neighboring house, a 30-year-old man was found shot. Fossmo was later sentenced to life imprisonment for incitement to murder and attempted murder, and a woman called the nanny, who carried out the acts, received forensic psychiatric care.
The incident also drew attention to the Philadelphia congregation to which Fossmo belonged. Information gradually emerged about the group's special interpretation of the Bible, where the concept of the bride of Christ was interpreted as meaning a person - a woman in the Knutby congregation.
Helge Fossmo's sentence was later commuted and he has been on parole for a few years now. The nanny was released in 2011.
