Lavrov's journey took almost twelve hours, as the plane avoided flying over the Ukraine-allied countries that have banned Russian flights in their airspace.
On Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Minister will, among other things, meet his American counterpart, Marco Rubio. The meeting takes place in the light of the United States' attempts to reach an end to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine – attempts that have so far been fruitless.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, had previously urged Ukraine to make concessions to put an end to the war, but after yesterday's meeting with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, Trump suddenly shifted and claimed that Ukraine can win back the whole of Ukraine.
"(Vladimir) Putin and Russia are in a major economic crisis and it's time for Ukraine to act", Trump wrote on his own platform Truth Social after the meeting.
Zelenskyj noted in turn that Putin's lies have made Trump now trust Kyiv more.
