Russia rejects US claims of secret nuclear bomb tests, but is ready to “discuss the suspicions,” Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after President Donald Trump’s recent remarks.

Trump said that Russia, among others, is secretly testing nuclear weapons, and that the United States therefore feels compelled to resume its nuclear tests.

In an interview with pro-regime media in Russia, Lavrov rejects Trump's claims, but adds:

We are prepared to discuss the suspicions raised by our American colleagues regarding the possibility that we may be secretly doing something deep underground.

He also says that Moscow continues to keep the door open for a possible meeting between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

"We are ready to talk with our American colleagues about resuming preparatory work for the proposed summit," Lavrov said.

A previously planned meeting in Budapest on the war in Ukraine was abruptly canceled by the United States in October. The announcement came shortly after Lavrov and his American counterpart Marco Rubio held preparatory talks, during which Lavrov reportedly refused to soften the harsh Russian demands.
