The Latvian military has issued an orange warning for three municipalities along Latvia’s southern border with Lithuania, public service broadcaster LSM reports.
An orange warning is the higher of two alert levels. It is used to draw attention to “a confirmed threat in Latvian airspace” that requires residents to act and take safety measures.
It is not clear at this stage what the perceived threat is. Overnight, there were drone attacks in the area around St. Petersburg in Russia, north of the Baltics.
The municipalities covered by the warning are southeast of Riga. NATO forces deployed in the country, where Swedish soldiers rotate into a brigade, are based in Ādaži, a couple of kilometers outside the capital.
