A 55-year-old woman has been murdered in a residential area in Boden. The suspected perpetrator has been shot dead by police. Two more people have been taken to hospital.

The incident is being investigated as, among other things, murder and attempted murder.

Police were called to the villa at lunchtime on Christmas Day. The suspect, a man in his 20s, had, according to police, attacked people at the address in question with a cleaver.

The police went to the scene to see what had happened and to arrest this man. Then a situation arose that led to the police firing, and he dies, says Marie Andersson, press spokesperson for the police in the North region.

The 55-year-old woman was found dead and two additional people were taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

According to the police, there is no known relationship between the perpetrator and the people in the villa. But it is something that will be investigated further.

The suspected perpetrator is said to have been in the home for several hours, according to information provided to Aftonbladet.

"It was lively there in the morning. I was outside with the dog and heard screaming in there," says a neighbor the newspaper spoke to.

The information is not something the police want to comment on.

Police have cordoned off an area at the crime scene.

Information gathering, interrogations and technical investigations are ongoing. The police are appealing for tips and observations from people who may have been in the area.

The police's firing will be investigated by the police's special investigations department.
