The situation has stabilised, but the water supplier VA Syd hopes that residents of Malmö and Svedala will still make an extra effort to keep water consumption down until Thursday morning, as there is less water in the system than normal.

We are grateful for all the efforts. It is raining today, but you may not need to start watering or wash the car, says Maria Nordblad Stålgard, communications manager at VA Syd.

The major water leak occurred overnight Wednesday. It led to less drinking water in the system than normal, which in some cases led to poor pressure and discoloured water.

The damaged pipe has been completely disconnected.

"There has been a large outflow from this line. Our focus has been to section off this line so that we can continue the supply through other lines," says Stefan Johnsson, safety and quality manager at Sydvatten.

What caused the leak will be investigated.

We don't know yet, he says.
