During the first two months of the year, 134 frostbite incidents have been reported in the Swedish Armed Forces. This compares to 47 during the whole of 2025. The vast majority of those affected are conscripts and students.

The injuries range from a white spot on the cheek to deeper frostbite. During an exercise in Norrbotten in February, 13 conscripts from the Skaraborg Regiment, P 4, suffered various types of frostbite one night after the heater in their tent stopped working.

"This number of frostbite cases and the risk of injury in some individuals is serious," Joakim Giöbel, head of the Swedish Armed Forces' Ground Safety Department, told the newspaper.

A review of the frostbite cases has been initiated and is expected to be completed in May.
