The fire broke out in one of Paris' largest recycling centers near a new courthouse complex in the city's 17th arrondissement. Around 60 fire trucks and 200 firefighters worked through the late evening to try to extinguish the fire, according to the rescue service.
The Paris fire department reported on X that a "large fire" was raging and urged the public to "stay away from the area and let the rescue service work."
The authorities also closed off part of the ring road surrounding the city so that the fire trucks could reach the fire, said the arrondissement's mayor Geoffrey Boulard to BFMTV.
He further stated that the building was completely engulfed in flames but that all personnel could be evacuated.
