A thousand people are reported to have gathered in the capital Nuuk in what is described as Greenland's largest demonstration ever, writes Dagens Nyheter.
A considerable number, considering Nuuk's and all of Greenland's population of 19,000 and 57,000 inhabitants, respectively.
Demonstrations are also taking place in the second city, Sisimiut.
We may have different opinions on many issues, but when it comes to this, we are all united, says Jens-Frederik Nielsen, party leader for the liberal Demokraatit (Democrats) who unexpectedly became the largest party in last week's parliamentary election, to the local media house Sermitsiaq.
Banners display English-language slogans such as "Yankee go home" and "We are not for sale".
The demonstrations follow on from US President Donald Trump's statements about the US taking control over Greenland in one way or another. As recently as Thursday, he reiterated that he believes it will become a reality.
