Lamar was praised for diss - Beyoncé's album best

The rap star Kendrick Lamar was awarded twice for his Drake-diss "Not like us", which took home both song of the year and recording of the year at the Grammy Awards. The album of the year became Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" and Chappell Roan the newcomer of the year.

The city is dedicated to us, said Lamar, and then went on to name several districts in Los Angeles, where the gala took place on Sunday night Swedish time.

In total, Lamar, who will soon be delivering the halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl for the second time, won five Grammys.

Before that, Beyoncé – nominated in a total of eleven categories – had been awarded the prize for country album of the year for her acclaimed "Cowboy Carter". The statuette was presented by another of the world's biggest stars – Taylor Swift.

This I really didn't expect. Wow, said Beyoncé from the stage.

Towards the end of the gala, the 43-year-old also received the prize for album of the year.

Shortly afterwards, Chappell Roan took home the prize for newcomer of the year.

The gala's biggest surprise was The Weeknd, who performed a medley from his newly released album "Hurry up tomorrow". The Canadian has boycotted the Grammy gala in recent years, accusing it of being "corrupt" in 2021.

Sur Drake?

One who likely won't be thrilled about Lamar's win is the target of his frontal attack, Drake.

Last week, the 38-year-old Canadian filed a lawsuit against Universal Music for defamation and harassment because the company had released and marketed "Not like us", where he and his entourage are accused of being "criminal pedophiles that the public should be warned about".

Taylor Swift could also be added to the list of potentially disgruntled artists. The star was nominated in six categories but left the event without any statuettes in her bag.

During the gala, money was collected for those affected by the devastating fires in Los Angeles. The most touching moment was perhaps the performance by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, dedicated to the battered city of LA. After highlighting people who had lost their homes, the duo sang "California dreamin’".

CORRECTED: An earlier version contained errors. Correct is that Chappell Roan became newcomer of the year, it previously stated someone else. An earlier statement that Beyoncé is the first black woman to receive the prize for album of the year is incorrect and has been removed in this version.
