The Los Angeles Lakers' home game against Charlotte on Thursday was cancelled due to the fires, and after Friday's training, head coach JJ Redick revealed that his family's house in Pacific Palisades had burned down.
Everything we owned that was important to us for nearly 20 years together as a couple and 10 years as parents was in that house, says Redick.
He took over as Lakers coach last summer and the family rented a house in the celebrity-studded area while waiting to find a permanent residence. When Redick and the team were on an away game in Dallas on Tuesday, he heard that the house had burned down. His wife and two sons were then placed in safety.
On Wednesday, he visited the fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades.
I wasn't prepared for what I saw. It's complete devastation.
According to the schedule, the Lakers are to play four straight home games starting on Saturday against San Antonio. No decision has yet been made to cancel that game as well.
