Last year he made it to the final qualifiers; this year 18-year-old Arwin is aiming for the final in Melodifestivalen. With "Glitter" he hopes to stand out in a tough field.
The song feels even more like me; it's more like the music I listen to, he says.
The retro-scented "Glitter" is already being compared to various songs from the 1980s, long before Arwin was born in 2007.
Many people have said that it was similar to "Upp över mina öron" by Orup and Glenmark - but I didn't even know who they were when we wrote it. Now I've listened to it and I love it!
The Spirit of Whitney Houston
Laila Adèle's song also smells of bygone times; "Oxygen" is a power ballad in the spirit of Whitney Houston.
One of my dreams has been to write a modern version of “I have nothing” at some point in my life. And so we came up with this powerful power ballad.
The lyrics refer to a singer that young Laila becomes enthralled by when she sees her on TV. But it's not Whitney Houston, she reveals.
It was actually Diana Ross, who I happened to see in concert when I was seven years old.
In 2006, Laila Adèle participated in the Melodifestivalen with the song "Don't try to stop me". However, the fact that it was exactly twenty years ago was not something she thought about when she and songwriters Jonas Thander and Marcus Winther-John submitted "Oxygen" to the competition.
It was my fiancé who pointed out that if I came along it would be exactly twenty years since the last time. And then it really felt right, she says.
“I am a perfectionist”
However, Arwin doesn't think his number feels quite right for Friday's rehearsal.
I'm a perfectionist. Right now the performance is only at about twenty percent. Everything needs to be turned up: direction, lighting and singing. It will get better; we'll work until it's one hundred percent.
He is aware that artists don't usually admit when things aren't going so well during rehearsals.
But then they're lying. Or they're just great and I'm bad, Arwin says with a laugh.
