Lady Gaga is offering the people of Rio a free concert this spring. On May 3, she will perform on Copacabana Beach in front of an estimated audience of over one million spectators.

"I have longed to come and perform for you for several years and it was with a broken heart that I had to cancel the concert several years ago when I was hospitalized", writes Gaga on

.

It was in 2017 that Lady Gaga cancelled several concerts and postponed her European tour due to medical reasons. The star announced that she had been hospitalized with severe pain and that she suffers from the chronic disease fibromyalgia.

In May 2024, Madonna concluded her tour with a free performance on Copacabana Beach, one of the world's most famous beachlines. Authorities had expected hundreds of thousands of spectators, but the audience figure was estimated at 1.6 million.

Rio's mayor Eduardo Paes, who was re-elected for a four-year term last year, has promised to bring a major international artist to the city every May.

"I don't have tickets to the Lady Gaga concert. It's open and free!" he joked on X.
