The American authors' organization Authors Guild has started a labeling of books that are created by human intellect – and not by artificial intelligence.

The "Human authored" label – written by a human – is to be awarded to books after the authors have reported their works on a member page. They will then be able to use the label on, for example, book covers and advertising materials.

But the initiative is not about rejecting new technology, according to CEO Mary Rasenberger.

"It's about creating transparency, recognizing the reader's desire for human contact and celebrating the specifically human aspects of storytelling", she says in a statement.

The organization approves the use of AI for spell checking and research.
