The French postal service La Poste has been hit by a massive data breach, affecting customers using its online banking and mobile services. The attack is also expected to affect parcel deliveries during the busiest period of the year.
La Poste writes on platform X:
"Since early this morning, an incident has affected access to your online banking and mobile app. Work is underway to resolve the issues; our teams are doing everything they can to quickly restore service."
According to a source within the company that French BFMTV has spoken to, it is a denial-of-service attack, which aims to overload servers with requests until they eventually crash.
La Poste assures that customer data has not been leaked or affected by the attack.
Other French banks have also been hit by problems during the day. Customers at Caisse d'Epargne and Banque Populaire have been unable to log in to their accounts. It is not clear whether this is also a denial-of-service attack.
