Zelenskyy says he has received a report from Ukraine's military leadership that equipment connected to tech billionaire Elon Musk's Starlink satellite network and its military counterpart, Starshield, has stopped working “at speeds of 130-161 km/h on some front sections.”
“It slows down our logistics at the front and limits our various types of drones,” Zelenskyy writes on X, specifically mentioning medium-range drones and the drones used to stop Russian “Shahed” drones, which are said to travel at up to 200 km/h.
Starlink limitations were a hot topic last week. On Sunday, Zelenskyy thanked the government for restoring the speed, but also accused the US of deliberately limiting the system.
“This issue must be raised again with our allies at every level today. Speed is critical to saving lives,” the president wrote Monday afternoon.
Children killed in attack
The technical problems have arisen as US President Donald Trump puts new pressure on the Ukrainian government to negotiate with invading Russia.
There were also reports of shortcomings in cooperation with Ukraine's allies on Monday night. According to Ukrainian reports, Russia fired 16 ballistic missiles at Kyiv and the surrounding area. The country was also attacked with nearly 270 drones.
“(...) and again there was no warning from our partners,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media on Monday morning.
The attacks took place in several waves, and during the second wave, the warnings had started coming again, according to a military representative in Kyiv.
At least one person died in the attacks overnight. In the afternoon, reports came from the Kharkiv region that six other people, including three children, had been killed in a Russian drone strike on a park in the town of Nova Vodolaha. Among the victims was a child in a stroller, Zelenskyy wrote on social media. About a dozen others were injured.
“He should focus...”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he is not aware of what happened to the warnings overnight on Monday, but according to him, there has been no break in military intelligence.
“I know that a few nights ago there was a software problem involving the early warning system,” Rubio told reporters during a visit to Uzbekistan.
