A paper handkerchief on a table in Kyiv has led to conspiracy theories of cocaine use when France's President Emmanuel Macron and his colleagues from the UK, Poland, and visited Ukraine on Saturday.
The French presidential office counters with irony.
"This is a handkerchief that you blow your nose with. This is European unity to build peace", reads the caption on the Élysée Palace's post on X.
At the same time, a warning finger is raised for false news "that is spread by France's enemies".
"When European unity becomes uncomfortable, disinformation is used to make a simple handkerchief look like drugs. We must be vigilant", writes the presidential office.
