The Kurdish self-government in Syria's northeastern parts calls for an end to the fighting in the country and invites the country's new government to dialogue.
The call for "a stop to military operations across the entire Syrian territory to initiate a constructive, comprehensive national dialogue" comes on Monday at a press conference in Raqqa, just over a week after jihadist militia groups overthrew dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime.
War-torn Syria is home to many different ethnic groups. The Islamist movement Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which is leading the takeover in Damascus, claims that all ethnic groups and religious communities should be welcome in Syria. These claims are questioned in many parts of the world.
