Disappointed and empty after another failure, Kristoffer Jakobsen is now thinking about quitting. He says it's hard to motivate himself to continue after the Olympic slalom in Bormio.

The heavy snowfall in the Italian ski resort meant poor visibility, and with a difficult piste setting on the usually easy slope, a complicated task awaited in Bormio.

Kristoffer Jakobsen was still optimistic when he set off.

But he never came down.

The 31-year-old was one of 49 skiers who crashed out.

"I lost my balance a little. I think it was a bit of a sneak attack or something. It was hard to see the ground," he said.

“Tough”

It was a subdued, disappointed Swede pacing behind the finish area after the run.

Thoughts were spinning in his head, and most of them revolved around: How am I going to be able to invest in this?

"You start to wonder what to do next season, whether there will be anything or not. I have good stuff in me with some good turns here and there, but it's tough trying to motivate myself to continue investing," he said.

"We'll see if there's a good team built around the slalom effort, so I'm not ruling out the possibility," he said.

Do you need other conditions to continue?

"We came into this season without a coach. Then we got one to recharge for Levi, but he's going back into retirement. If a team were built that I felt extremely motivated by, I could consider continuing," he said.

"If that doesn't happen, then I'll probably have to do something else fun," he said.

When will you make a decision about next season?

"It will probably be sometime this spring when we have to make a decision," he said.

Tough season

Kristoffer Jakobsen entered the season with hopes of taking the first victory of his career. New equipment, adapted to his brutal and aggressive skiing style, would bring the success he had been chasing for so long.

Instead, it was the opposite.

He started with seven straight races without any results and chose to go back to his old equipment for the races in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy. In Kitzbühel, Austria, he finished 13th and earned selection to the Italian Olympics.

In the warm-up, he was back on the same course as before.

After three gates in the first run in Schladming, he was out.

Then came the Olympics.
