"I will always stand up for my country, and for our allied neighbors. This is an EU issue that concerns many more countries than those now being singled out," the prime minister said.
Sweden is now holding intensive discussions with other EU countries, Norway and the UK on a collective response, he added.
Sweden's National Security Advisor, Niclas Kvarnström, recently concluded a meeting with a circle of allied representatives in Europe, according to a source within the Government Offices. The prime minister is in close contact with his Nordic colleagues and has also contacted opposition representatives to keep them informed, as well as made contacts for dialogue with representatives of the Swedish export industry.
