The 20-point plan was presented by Trump together with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
I note that it is welcomed from many different directions, not least from other Gulf states. I think it is perceived as an unexpectedly ambitious proposal to do something about the dreadful situation that prevails there, says Ulf Kristersson.
He adds that the terrorist organization Hamas has not yet responded to how they stand on the proposal.
It is basically a completely crucial piece of the puzzle, including the completely unconditional requirement to release the entire hostage. It will be a first litmus test.
The issue will be discussed at the EU leaders' meeting in Copenhagen on Wednesday. Overall, however, Kristersson thinks the peace plan is a step in the right direction.
I still think it's a cautiously optimistic step forward.
