The draft peace agreement for the Ukraine war appears to be in Russia's favor, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at a press conference.

They go far in a direction that serves Russian interests.

He emphasizes that the peace negotiations must take place on terms that Ukraine can accept.

Ukraine must be involved in negotiating about Ukraine, and Europe must be involved in negotiating about European security. These are two points that are extremely central, regardless of how one evaluates individual points of what has emerged so far.

He further says that he has intensive contact with his Nordic-Baltic colleagues on the issue and that there are still many question marks.

We will continue to have intensive contact over the next few days to have as much of a common picture as possible.

Contacting Zelenskyy

EU representatives point out that they have not officially received the 28-point proposal.

The European Union has not received any official information about any plans, EU Council President Antonio Costa said at a press conference, AFP reports.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says the situation will be addressed during the G20 meeting in South Africa this weekend.

I will also contact President (Volodymyr) Zelensky to discuss the issue, she adds.

List of topics

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul wants Ukraine to be able to hold discussions from a strong negotiating position, he told reporters in Brussels. He sees the draft as more of a list of topics than a real plan.

"I believe it is the task of the negotiating parties to define this," he said, according to AFP.

It will be Ukraine that decides what compromises it makes, just as Russia will have to make such decisions for itself.
