Dawit Isaak's captivity in Eritrea is one of the topics that has been raised during Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard's (M) visit to the country, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).

Maria Malmer Stenergard is visiting Eritrea where she has met with her Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh.

Upon arrival at the ongoing EU summit in Brussels, Ulf Kristersson was asked by Swedish journalists if there was anything new to tell about Dawit Isaak, the Swedish-Eritrean journalist who has been in Eritrean prison without trial since 2001.

No, nothing new, except that there are, as everyone understands, many reasons why the Foreign Minister is in Eritrea. There are many regional issues and we have important bilateral issues as well and all of that will be discussed.

Is Dawit Isaak one of the important issues?

Yes, of course, says Kristersson.

Maria Malmer Stenergard's visit to Eritrea is the first by a Swedish Foreign Minister to the country since it became independent in 1993.
