Kremlin Says Russia Could Halt Attacks for One Day to Allow Ukraine Election

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he will call elections if Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire. But the Kremlin has rejected the idea, saying one day is enough.

"I don't think he deserves any respite," says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Zelensky's currency gamble came on Sunday after US President Donald Trump criticized him and said that Ukraine "should get a new president."

On Monday, Russia announced that it could agree to a one-day ceasefire so that Ukraine could hold a presidential election.

If they really want to hold elections in Kyiv, the Russian president, the commander-in-chief, is prepared to give orders not to carry out any attacks on Ukraine on election day - specifically on election day itself, says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
