The presidents of the United States and Russia spoke by phone on Friday.
Most of the conversation focused on the war in Ukraine, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian state media. According to Peskov, Trump proposed a "de-escalation of the conflict," which Putin was receptive to.
During the conversation, the Russian president was receptive to some proposals from the American side about steps towards de-escalation, Peskov said in Russian.
After the conversation, Donald Trump announced that they had agreed the United States would make exceptions to the sanctions so Russia could bring a quantity of diesel onto the global market.
