Since the premiere in June, the musical has been shown more than 236 million times and has thus surpassed the action comedy "Red Notice", writes BBC.
The film has been praised for the animation and depiction of both traditional and modern Korean culture, but above all it is the many captivating K-pop songs that have paved the way for the success.
Music from the film has also been streamed extensively on Spotify and the song "Golden" reached the top spot on Billboard Hot 100 earlier in August. Some of the soundtrack's producers and songwriters are veterans from the K-pop industry who have worked with groups like BTS and Twice.
"K-pop: Demon Hunters", which is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, follows the fictional K-pop girl band Huntr/x and its three members who use their music and fighting skills to protect people from demons.
