The CAS writes in its ruling that certain chants from the stands are unacceptable and should lead to sanctions from the European Football Association (UEFA), but that it "cannot justify Kosovo national team leaving the pitch" in the Nations League match away against Romania on November 15 last year.
Therefore, UEFA's decision stands: Romania is awarded a 3–0 win.
It is bad news for the Swedish football bosses when it comes to the chances of making it to the World Championship 2026.
With the awarded three points, Romania became the best group winner in the C-division of the Nations League, two points better than Sweden, which also won its group, and is thus ranked ahead of the Blue-Yellow. Four group winners, who do not finish top two in their World Championship qualifying group (qualifying starts in the autumn), get a place in the playoff to the World Championship 2026.
It was 0–0 and play was in extra time when the Kosovo football players left the pitch in Bucharest in protest of the Romanian crowd chanting "Serbia". UEFA awarded Romania the win afterwards since Kosovo refused to play to the end of the match, but the Kosovo association appealed the decision.
