This weekend's events in Nordanstig must lead to changes for the safety of ambulance nurses, according to Kommunal's chairman Malin Ragnegård. This should not be allowed to happen, she says.

A female ambulance nurse in her 45s was killed over the weekend, when she was attacked in connection with an emergency call to Harmånger in Nordanstig municipality, just north of Hudiksvall.

The woman was a member of the trade union Kommunal.

It's terrible of course. It's tragic and sad in so many ways and now that we know it was a member of Kommunal, we have an organization in mourning, says the union chairman Malin Ragnegård.

At the same time, the death is the latest in a longer series of incidents where ambulance staff have been exposed to threats or violence. Therefore, something must happen now, according to Malin Ragnegård.

There are reports that this person has been violent and threatening just days before and that various authorities have been aware of this problem. It's clear that it's completely unacceptable, she says.

I think many different things need to be done. But everything must be put on the table now to ensure that this never happens again.
