Besides the victims, the suspected perpetrator was also injured. The person was arrested after being overpowered by the public.
Incorrect information about the number of injured and seriously injured was reported earlier on Thursday due to confusion caused by the perpetrator being injured in the incident.
The motive for the deed is unclear. The suspected person "is receiving medical care and will be questioned at a later stage", according to the police spokesperson.
According to the police, the victims appear to have been randomly selected. Among the affected are two Americans in their 70s, a Pole in their 25s, a Belgian in their 70s, and one in their 20s from the Netherlands, according to the newspaper De Telegraaf.
The police and ambulance helicopter were called to the Dam Square where the incident took place, and the police set up cordons.
The incident occurred around 3:30 pm.
