The decision means that the opposition's proposal to initiate an official and impartial investigation into the events before and during the attack is stopped.
According to the proposal, a committee would be able to investigate the events when 251 people were taken hostage by terrorist-stamped Hamas, in the attack that triggered the Gaza war.
Opposition members in the Knesset condemn the result of the vote as a moral failure. Knesset member Mickey Levy from the opposition party Yesh Atid warns that the public's trust will continue to be eroded if such an investigation is not carried out.
