The Irish rap trio projected the message "Fuck Israel, Free Palestine" during the concert, and called Israel's actions a genocide. The group's performance resulted in many angry reactions in conservative American media such as Fox News, and the trio's behavior was condemned by the British government. Kneecap also broke with its booking agency.

Since then the debate has continued to fuel. According to Billboard, however, the controversy seems to have benefited Kneecap's listener figures in the USA, which have almost doubled since Coachella. From 431,000 to 852,000 streams in two weeks. An increase of approximately 97 percent.
