"Almost half of Kyiv is without electricity after new large-scale Russian attacks, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa said. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said about 600,000 residents had left the city, where temperatures had reached minus 20 degrees Celsius."

“After this attack, 5,635 buildings lack heating,” Klitschko writes on Telegram.

He is referring, among other things, to the large apartment buildings that Kyiv has had thousands of since Soviet times. They are home to hundreds of thousands of people.

Klitschko says that around 600,000 residents of the capital have temporarily left the city, following a call from the mayor on January 9.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia's attack consisted of "a significant number of ballistic and cruise missiles" and "over 300 attack drones."
