The narrator in the book is working on a biography about the poet Heintz Konradsson, who becomes almost a national treasure after his new collection of lyrics. The writing leads him into a nearly forgotten story from the "times of arms rattling", about how car manufacturer Henry Ford sponsored a trip across the Atlantic for a boat full of peace activists, on their way to a conference in Stockholm about the massacres of World War I.

However, the author also comes into contact with influence operations from the East during the writing. According to the publisher, Östergren's book deals with a political and moral state that "has shaken an entire nation". It will be published in September.

Östergren made his debut as a 20-year-old with the novel "Attila" (1975) and had his breakthrough with "Gentlemen" (1980), the first part of a trilogy that concluded with "Renegades" (2020).
