LKAB made a loss of 2.4 billion kronor for the third quarter. Moving Kiruna is costing the state-owned mining giant.

”The transformation of society naturally affects our result significantly, but it is a necessary cost”, says CEO Jan Moström in a press release.

LKAB has in total set aside just over 20 billion kronor for the transformation of Kiruna city.

The operating result ended up at minus 2.4 billion kronor, compared to the profit of 2.1 billion during the same period last year. Revenues fell to 7.6 billion, down from 8.4 billion kronor, mainly due to lower iron ore prices and a weaker dollar, according to the company management.
